Here at Define
I joined Define Financial in 2019 and became a partner in 2021, because this is where I need to be, to be of maximum value to the families I do my best work for.
My skills and interests lean toward processes and analytics. While these are important attributes in an advisor, my goal is not to dazzle people with information overload; it’s to simplify the complex and help clients make smart retirement decisions.
I’m also always looking for smarter ways to run our business, so we can spend maximum time directly adding value to our clients’ lives.
Career Highlights
I did not start out as a financial advisor.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in financial economics with minors in business and accounting, I became a shipyard construction manager for a large government contractor. The work was satisfying, but over time, I found my interest in “tinkering” with financial planning at work and home far more rewarding.
When I first met Taylor in 2015, he suggested that I take (and pass) the rigorous CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ exam if I was serious about becoming an advisor. That’s exactly what I did.
But I also know what it’s like to be up late after a hard day’s work, worrying, wondering, and dreaming about my family’s future. Having now been on both sides of the spreadsheet, I’m ideally positioned to help other families worry less and dream more. I’ve found my calling.
Personal Points of Interest
- Family Man: I’m married, with two sons and an energetic border collie-terrier mix named Stella. A San Diego native, I remain close with my parents, in-laws, and grandmother who still live here too.
- Handyman: I’m a financial nerd by trade, but a jack of all trades at home, installing turf in my yard, building a retaining wall, installing recessed lighting, building new cabinets in the garage, and so on.
- Community Man: As a member of the San Diego Financial Planning Association NexGen Group, I enjoy helping and learning from the best and brightest in this profession.
- Sports Fan: If it involves a football, count me in. I attribute much of my staying power to the values instilled on the field while I played Division III football in college. And even though the Chargers have left town, you’ll still find me cheering them on every fall as I watch NFL Redzone.
